sew & tell friday ~ apron giveaway

time's UP...winner announced momentarily...

i'm linking this post to amy's sew and tell fridays

this week i finished up an apron using a pattern i purchased a couple months back...in general i'm not a 'pattern person'...i don't like to follow them (cause i rarely comprehend what they are saying)...but lately i've stuck my toe (barely) in the water and started attempting to sew with patterns...

the main fabric i picked up from HobLob over a year ago...i bought a bajillion yards of it and have barely cut into it...i paired it with some leftover michael miller dumb dot in red...
overall i am pleased with how it turned out...BUT it's not for me...let me assure you this: one size does NOT fit all...especially someone who is petite (namely, me)...

made strictly from the pattern, this apron best fits someone who is tall and um, busty...i am none of the above...
however, going into it i pretty much figured this would be the turnout...i had even prepared myself for it...i chalk it up to be a learning experience: i need to avoid one size fits all patterns, measure twice/cut once (explains why the ties aren't in the dumb dot and why there is no pocket), and try it on at every step to assure a proper fit!

i will most likely take another stab at this apron pattern in the future using the knowledge i gleaned from making this one...it will take a lot of customizing to get it to fit a small, petite person...

so...i will be giving this apron away to one lucky (?) commenter...all you have to do is leave a comment saying that you'd like to have it...that's it...no extra points for becoming a follower, or blogging about it, or becoming my BFF on facebook, or promising me your first born (that's my new pet peeve with blog contests...but i digress...that's another blog post on it's own)...just leave a simple comment and your name will be tossed in the hat...

winner will be drawn monday nite (april 19th) at 8pm est...giveaway open to anyone anywhere...just make sure i have some way of contacting you via your comment (link to blog or email or something)

have a great weekend and go visit some of the other sew and tell links for inspiration to get creative & finish something!

The fabric choice really makes the apron! I am in the process of making an apron for a friend, and she is very petite, so thanks for the warnings. I might have to enlist another petite friend, since I am pretty tall, to try on the apron at every step. I'll be sure to measure twice and cut once. Good luck on your next one.

Great choice of fabric for that apron. I am really tall and moderately busty, but most important, I love your apron!

How cheerful it is. Love the print and those polka dots are to die for!

I would love to win this apron BUT I don't think it would fit my ampleness. So please don't include me and this way others have a better chance.

Thanks!

I love it! I have 2 daughters who are tall and busty, so they'd look great helping out in the kitchen while wearing this adorable apron!

You did a beautiful job. I love the fabric.

Oh, the apron is so so so cute. You do such great work and the fabrics are so pretty/fun. I am so big AROUND that I don't know if your aprons would fit me. But I'd like to try to win this one! If it doesn't fit me, I could give it as a gift to someone.

I agree with you on the "if you don't become a follower, you can't win the prize" thing. I won't enter in that case. I don't like tactics to get followers. There's nothing wrong with a reminder to become a follower...but don't make it a criteria.

What a gorgeous apron! I'd say dipping your toe in was a great success. I'd put my name in but I'm not at all tall--okay let's face it I'm pretty darn short. Envious of those who can apply.

HA! I can certainly relate how you feel about reading patterns. I'm in the same boat. Your apron gives me hope!

That looks beautiful! I think you did a great job. I really love the apron, and I am tall, but not busty I don't think. Lol! I have yet to find an apron that actually looks good on me. :(

Wow what a wonderful giveaway! Count me in baby. Agree with you about the giveaway conditions. Thanks for keeping it simple. Just for that I have added you to my Google Reader. I also have problems following clothing patterns. basically thats why I quilt and can't believe I wasted all that energy thinking it was clothes that I wanted to make with fabric when there are lots of quilting/crafting goodies to make.

What a great apron!! What a beauty, nice job. I usually get excited about making a pattern and just dive in and learn several lessons in the process and how I would tweek it for another make. Congrats on a great make.
