'heirloom' flowers

i cannot remember if i planted these last spring or the spring before that...but anyways, when my grandparent's house was sold last year and we were getting the last things cleared out i decided to dig up some of the plants in the yard...my granny was a big time 'gardener/yard piddler' and her yard was full of all kinds of things (sadly, most had gone pretty much wild by the very end)...in order to preserve a tiny part of her, i dug up (okay, in all reality i just ripped them out of the ground) some flowers that bordered the deck...they had already bloomed so i wasn't sure what they were but for some reason i was convinced they were gladioli...there was a TON of them but i only dug up and transplanted a few (i think/hope they will eventually multiply)...

they popped back up this spring and over the weekend when i was weeding beds i noticed that one had a bloom on it...then yesterday when we arrived home from work the husband spotted this thru the fence...
um, that doesn't look like a glad but rather some type of iris!  i'm just so thrilled that it bloomed!

yeah, i KNOW i need to mulch...that's happening in the sometime future...i think this is the only bloom i'm going to see this year but at least it gives me hope that they are going to survive and perhaps even thrive in my yard...

stay tuned to see what else i took from her yard that's getting ready to bloom...hint: it's even prettier than this iris...and it's going to be pink (i think)
