giveaway winner & weekend birdwatching

please witness the highly scientific manner by which we (we being me and my assistant, the husband) chose the giveaway winner:

congratulations, julie in WA!  your name was pulled from the john deere hat! please send me an email with your mailing address (see lefthand side bar for link) and the marilyn apron will be on it's way to you soon!

thanks to all who entered! i haven't had that many 'contestants' since the last sew, mama, sew handmade giveaway day i participated in...makes me feel like pioneer woman or something...be sure to visit often as i do giveaways fairly often...and i've got lots more patterns to test...

and now for the weekend birdwatching part...feel free to leave now if you have no interest in birds...

sometime on friday (we think) we became 'parents' again:
six babies! they are carolina chickadees & are the teeniest things you ever saw...

mama bird & daddy bird were busy feeding them all weekend...the nest is so beautiful with moss and downy white cotton...truly a work of art...

and here's our newest pet:
he needs a name...any suggestions?

he's as big as sophie (for reals) and is in the yard all.the.time.

he's just beautiful...i love to hear the woosh of his wings when he flies off this perch...he rarely caws...just stands on the perch in all his regal glory...

his feathers are iridescent when the sunlight hits him just so...and his claws are amazing...

i'm starting to feel a bit like uncle billy

congrats to the lucky winner of that pretty apron! Those babies are so little with such a big mouth! the first name that came to mind when I saw that bird is "Humphrey." I don't know why...

AAwww those baby birds are sooo cute!! I like Sandy's name suggestion for your new pet too. :)
We have lots of Robins around our new place, and other birds too - I will have to keep an eye out and figure out what kinds we have!

Those babies are quite cute. I bet they're loud! Is that a crow? He might eat Sophie if he gets a chance!

i think it is a crow...if so, be careful! they'll eat baby birds! at least the ones down here will. he reminds me of the baby crow rob's mom found a few years ago and raised...he would fly right on our shoulders everytime we went outside! LOL!

I'm a little afraid of the crow!! Chug hates them (and squirrels) -he broke away yesterday to chase one on the yard next door! I like the name Humphrey, too or maybe Edgar Alan...
