apron art

i love wearing aprons...i put one on most anytime i cook or bake or am just simply working around the house on the weekends...the only place i had to hang them was behind the pantry door...and there was really only space for one...and hanging behind a door, you couldn't see how pretty they were...

enter an idea i stole from a house we toured in one of the historic neighborhoods downtown during a christmas candlelite tour:

at the historic house they actually used old doorknobs...i couldn't think of a source for old doorknobs but i knew that hobbylobby had neat drawer pull type knobs...enter my neighbor...remember how she brings me stuff from hobbylobby? i specifically requested knobs when she went home right after thanksgiving and she picked out the five above...the husband used a piece of curly maple (that was in his 'stash') and banded it with some mahogony scraps...

we hung it in the kitchen last nite

after some fits and starts with drilling in the studs it was all secure...

and then i hung my winter aprons
it's like art to me! i love aprons, i love the knobs, i love the curly maple!

tomorrow...a project i started and finished in one day!

So cute in all ways! I have been saving old doorknobs and antique bath knobs to make somthing like this for YEARS, maybe I can inspire P to get cracking on them!

punchy, you can use some of those awesome wood scraps 'P' brings home!!! if you use doorknobs, you could make a towel/robe holder for the bathroom. or the house i saw this at used it by the door to hold coats.
