show and tell thursday ~ vintage margaret

welcome to a brand new feature on 'girlville': show and tell thursdays! each thursday i will attempt to show something interesting that i've found be it from the great aunt's house or from a craft fair or that i made (like the tassel from the other day). if the item is from the great aunt's house it will be tagged 'vintage margaret'...so today's installment is a couple of 8x10 pictures that are 'vintage margaret'...

these were hanging in the master bedroom

they almost look like watercolors (but they aren't) and are parisian scenes

here's a closeup of the first one...i really like the rich colors especially the blue

this is the second one

and a closeup...it too has the nice rich blue

my main problem with these pictures is the mats! i'm not a fan of the pallid pink linen mats...at.all...but what to do? leave them as is to preserve them or replace the mats so i'll like them even more????

the frames are cream with gold trim...they are a tad bit beat up but i think they are okay (after all, they are OLD)...

so, what would you do:
  1. leave them as is
  2. put a new mat on them

Personally, I would mat them blue since that is the color you like best...assuming it goes with the room you plan to hang them in.

I'd probably put a new mat on them too.

Antique Roadshow would say leave them as is....

New mats for sure! The pinkish mats dull them down. Keep the old mats -in case you take them to be appraised at Antique Roadshow! I am a big fan of ivory/white mats and black frames!
