busy times!

no sooner does my grandparent's house get sold and it's time to go thru the husband's great aunt's house...she's lived there since 1967...there's a LOT of stuff in the house...a whole lot...it's going to take months to go thru everything...

we spent monday and tuesday evening there going thru the kitchen, dining room, living room and laundry room...i have never in my life seen so much crystal and silver...i have covered the entire dining room table in crystal, some of it is even stacked (like plates/trays) 5 high...

we have found some really interesting things:

for instance this ancient southern living magazine...circa 1967 was used to 'pad' a box full of china cups and saucers...
who knew they even had southern living way back then??? it's very brittle as the box it was in was in the attic and has likely been there since october 1967!
there is a lot of unused luggage still in boxes in the attic but this little train case was used:

it's in very good condition and even has the keys

the mirror is a little splotchy but it's still usable...it tilts down when you open the case

here's the interior...i think i'm going to actually go old school and USE it!

much like myself, great aunt saved everything...i'd go as far to say she is a packrat!
in the attic the husband found a box marked "letters"
i brought it home to go thru...apparently her husband traveled a lot due to his job when they first got married...he would be gone for a couple of weeks at a time and mainly traveled in the south (SC, GA, FL)...he would write her a letter or send a postcard everyday when he was gone...they are the sweetest letters i've ever read...i am going to find all that i can in the house, put them in chronological order and read them from the beginning...for reals, i could publish them like a novel...and then it could be made into a movie! they are THAT good.

the postcards are very kitschy and 1950s...
i'm sure there are many more treasures to be unearthed in the coming months...

Wonder if "uncle" ever dreamed someday he was going to be a novel?

Gosh, this makes me want to box up some good stuff and 'hide' it in the attic for someone to find one day!

What a great find on that train case! Very nice.

Those post cards (and letters) must be so neat. I love looking at old post cards. You'll have to put up some pics of some of them once you get them sorted.

Wow, what a neat find. I'd put the love letters in the train case for safekeeping. I love seeing the old postcards, too.

I'm a hopeless romantic...so the fact that he wrote her everyday he was gone is amazing to me. I would totaly buy the book!!!!! Publish it!!
