birthday adventure(s)

i started my 40th birthday last friday off on the right foot by taking the day off from work! pretty much nothing could top that in and of itself...i slept in until after 7am and the husband brought me coffee and the paper in bed before he went to work...i read the paper, watched tv and surfed the internet until time to go to the spa...i had booked the ultimate indulgence package:

the spa i go to
the first experience was body brushing for 45 minutes followed by an hour massage and then an hour long facial...it was wonderful - i've never done anything like it before...
i headed home to a mailbox full of gifts and about 2 hours to get ready for my evening...

tyler wanted to go with us...so he pondered getting in the grocery tote but decided he wouldn't fit nor did he want to wait in the car...

sophie thought i'd brought her a treat from the spa

but it was only the brush from the body brushing treatment and a fabulous candle that smells just like the spa - a treat for myself!

early afternoon the husband came home and we headed for north hills to take in a matinee movie:

i picked sex and the city...it was FABUlous!!! we both loved it and never wanted it to end...i could watch it a million times and will be buying it as soon as it comes out on dvd...i LOVE love LOVE me some 'big'...i don't think i realized how much i miss that show until seeing the movie...we both agree that there really isn't any more of the story to be told though and sadly don't for see another movie...afterwards we popped in five guys which is literally right outside the theatre doors...good thing because the bottom fell out and it rained like a hurricane for about an hour...
we ate really slow and watched the storm...headed to rei...considered ben&jerry's...decided against it...and went to the little grocery store across the street:
when we got home we surveyed storm damage! yikes, it had been a worse storm than we thought...neighbor had a large tree limb blocking her walkway and the husband lost a tomato plant...up the street a HUGE ginormous oak tree fell over...this is our 2nd or 3rd really bad storm in just a few weeks...i hope there are no more

after opening the rest of my gifts (there were more inside when i got home) we headed to bed to watch tv...kady decided to sit on her dad:

tyler can never get close enough to his dad

the face of a traitor kitty!

on saturday i cleaned the house, did laundry and prepared for 'M' to come over for dinner/grilling out:

beverages

the husband mans the grill in the newly landscaped backyard

dinner: roasted potatoes, grilled mixed veggies, bacon wrapped blue cheese steaks and rosemary sea salt bread

sunday i floundered around all day and didn't do much of anything other than iron clothes for approximately 3 hours! for dinner we had pesto tortellini with red sauce, fresh basil, goat cheese and the rest of the rosemary bread:

and then it was monday and my birthday weekend/week/month was over...but it was the best 40th birthday i could ever have expected! thanks for all of the cards, birthday wishes and gifts - i am so lucky to have such wonderful blog friends...tomorrow i'll recap the gifts...

I'm so glad you had a wonderful day - what's not to love about a spa day! I'm tried of all the storms we've been having too.

What a wonderful birthday! That spa treatment sounds wonderful.
ohmygosh, didn't you just the movie? I started tearing up when the music started. I feel the same way, I'm probably going to have to have that one on DVD. I've already been back to see it again.

Your dinner on Saturday looks SO good. I love grilled veggies. Thank goodness you didn't have much storm damage. We had a bad one come through this Saturday.

Oh, the spa sounds wonderful! Almost three hours at a spa? Sign me up!! Oh, and I heard on the news (E! news that is) that they are making another SATC movie 'cause this one was such a hit. Don't know if it will pan out, though, and I feel like you do...that they've told all they can tell now. It was a good and fun movie. Oh, and your dinners sound so gourmet! Delicious! I'll be over there tonight!! ;)
So glad you had such a great bday weekend!
