things that go CrAsH in the nite...EDITED

the following was added to this post:
a truck HIT a house in our neighborhood (see picture, from wral.com) a couple of weeks ago...as a result of the driver speeding and 'falling asleep'...at like 8am...we have a problem with speeding in our 'hood...read on to see what happened last nite on my street...
we were woken out of deep slumber at 3:15isAM (yes, AM) this morning to screeching tires, crashing, booming, etc...it took several minutes for me to wake up and figure out what was going on...first i thought there had been a wreck, then maybe someone had hit OUR car or our trashcan (today is trash pickup day)...we both peeked out all of the bedroom windows and i saw a dark color car leaving the 'scene of the crime'!! and i saw another car right behind them. i noticed the neighbor who lives across the street (right behind the fence) turned on his floodlights and was outside so we ran downstairs and out the front door...i asked him did someone hit his car (he has friends who often park on the street when they visit) and he said "no, they took out my fence"...i hadn't even noticed...it was dark outside people, i could barely see:

about five sections of fence (that the HOA just had painted like 2 days ago) use to be here

we called the cops cause i want whoever did this caught! people speed in our neighborhood/on our street all the time! after giving the police officer all the info i could recall we all set about 'gathering evidence'...i knew the car was dark colored...sure enough there is metallic blue paint all over the freshly painted white fence...also we surmised that the windshield was busted out and that the car hit the curb at an angle, hit a tree and side swiped all that fence...the 'perpetrator' who fled left behind a lot of evidence: car parts, tail light pieces, and an entire side mirror...needless to say there is a metallic blue car somewhere in this town with major damage on the passenger side...

the skid marks are REALLY long...as in i don't think i have a measuring tape that long...the husband surmises they had to have been going at least 60mph...the speed limit in our 'hood is 25...

they hit the lowest part of the curb

scraped the storm drain (gee, do you think that damaged the underside of the car?)
dug into the dirt

hit a tree...which saved them from hitting the neighbor's house

and here is the amazing part...the person LEFT the scene by going THRU these 2 cars that were parked there...and somehow managed to not hit any cars (there were 3 parked on the street last nite).

what we will be cleaning up/repairing the next few weeks!

while we were still outside with the policeman a white car cruised by slowly...driven by a teenage looking boy...it had a cracked windshield...i saw a white car after the dark car just after the crash...the officer jumped in his car and sped down the road and pulled the white car...soon after another car comes by with 2 adults...they are the newspaper delivery people...they saw the whole thing and got the last 4 digits of the liscense plate and saw the driver: a young boy (16 they guessed) with glasses!!! i SO SO SO hope they catch this kid and this goes on his permanent record. honestly, i would have never at that age: been out at 3 something in the morning, been driving so fast that i lost control of my car, OR left the scene!! if i had done any of these things my dad would have literally killed me...sometimes i wonder what in the world is wrong with kids these days...

Wow...I'm glad that no one was injured and no homes were hit! Luckily a fence and some grass is pretty easy to replace. Glad everyone is okay!

Oh boy...I hope they catch the kid, too. At least to alert the parents and maybe get some insurance money for the damages and that will make his parents' insurance rates go up and maybe they won't let him drive? Uh?? What an idiot. I'm glad he didn't get hurt and that your neighbor's house didn't get hit. A car sure can be a deadly weapon and some kids and adults don't need to be driving.

It's a wonder they didn't hit a house or other cars - glad no one was hurt. The problem with kids today are their parents!! That's my belief anyway.

Wow! I'm so glad that nobody was hurt and I hope they catch the kid as well. What is a kid doing out at that time of night? I'll bet you didn't get back to sleep last night!

Unreal...sad! Time to fess up Kid! If my kid came home and I notice the sode of the car all damaged...you better believe I would start asking questions and would escort my child into the police departmant. Lesson Learned! I hopw the driver is found and is Punnished..... What a coward to run and hide!

Oh my goodness...that picture of the vehicle in the house is crazy...was that a garage on that side? There was a really sad story here of a drunk drive hitting a curb and the car went airborne and landed through the rough of a house and killed a teenager in his bed asleep. It was so devastating and unbelievable that that could happen. I wonder what happens to the homeowners insurance after something like that happens?

YIKES! I have been so out of touch with the blog world lately! SCARY! I am glad they caught the person who did that to your pretty little fence. Your husband is doing a great job in the repairs.
