2 of my new favorite 'green' things

awhile back i ordered a couple of things from

nellie's dryer balls...i had read 'stories' of how 'bad' dryer sheets were...i'll not post any here but you can do a search and find out for yourself...i will say if you use dryer sheets PLEASE scrub your lint catcher in addition to cleaning it out on a regular basis...(try running water thru if and see if it pools or sieves thru)...anyhoo, after i used up the ginormous supply of dryer sheets i'd gotten from the warehouse club i vowed to quit the dryer sheet habit, take the plunge and shell out the $$ for dryer balls...there are other brands on the market but after researching i felt these were the ones i wanted...i really like them and can vouch that they DO indeed cut down on drying time thus they have probably already paid for themselves...they are purported to have a '2 year, 1000 load life span'...then they can be recycled!

since has a flat shipping rate of $7.95 i thought i may as well order something else too...i've been struggling with guilt over using SO many plastic drinking bottles AND the fact that i think plastic is the devil*...again, after using up the plastic water bottles we had in the house i researched and chose to go for a non-plastic (i.e. not a nalgene or something similar) reuseable bottle...SIGG fit the bill and often has nifty SIGG bottles...the day i ordered 'hello kitty' was available

i can say for certain that NO flavors leach into your water, ice cubes (from my freezer) will fit in the opening and the bottle will keep cold water cool for a lot longer than's a blurb about SIGG bottles from the site:

Virtually indestructible and designed to keep your liquids tasting great, this SIGG bottle will instantly help reduce the millions of plastic bottles tossed into landfills every day. The innovative 1.0 L Lifestyle Bottle is surprisingly rugged, crack-resistant and completely reusable and recyclable. A ground-breaking interior lining is 100% effective against leaching and combats residue build-up, so the 1.0 L Lifestyle Bottle is easy to clean and ensures that all you taste is the water, juice or energy drink that you just poured in the bottle, even after its been sitting in the Sun!

i know this bottle isn't cheap...but i think it too will eventually pay for itself as i'm no longer BUYING water that i can get for 'free' out of the tap at home (fridge has a filter builtin) or at work (filter on sink)...even if you do not chose to buy a bottle such as this, please read this shocking (well, i think it is) list of facts about plastic bottles and american consumption (!) of said a minimum, please consider recycling all of your plastic water and soda bottles.

thanks for reading my environmental public service announcement !

*i realize the dryer balls are made of plastic...and i still think plastic is the devil...sadly, i do not think there is anyway to eliminate all plastic from our lives...and i think the dryer balls are better all around environmentally than dryer sheets.

All very good points to consider! I've read about the dryer balls on other blogs and everyone seems to really like them.
