weekend update

saturday we went to 3 'local' wineries...well local in that they were about an hour from home...first stop was here:

entrance to the tasting rooms/winery/gift shop
this winery is owned and run by one of only 3 female wine makers in our state...we sampled fourteen (!) wines and as a special in the month of february 4 of them were served with chocolates ranging from white to 72% dark...the wineries on this 'wine trail' were hosting a progressive dinner that day so you could have a different food course at each stop...here we had a nice cup of french onion soup with a glass of chambourcin wine...

they have a lot of areas for outdoor activities and often have parties, dinners, concerts and other events throughout the year...as you can see the vines have yet to flower out for this upcoming season...

this sleigh was on the bandstand...i tried to get the husband and 'M' to pretend to be riding in it but they would have none of that...we ended up buying 5 bottles of wine (one bottle is for in-laws)...then we headed back into mebane, nc to a little tea room we had spotted on the way to iron gate for some lunch...it was a cute little restaurant...the husband and i had spinach and feta quiche, 'M' had a nice salad topped with grilled chicken...the husband had a large glass of sweet tea and 'M' and i each got a pot of tea...

the next winery sucked...so i'm not going to say anything about it...we decided that they cannot all be good!

our final stop was in the next county up at rock of ages...this building is absolutely gorgeous and is in the middle of nowhere...we sample all of their wines and then decided to get a bottle of chardonnay and a cheese plate to share by the fire...here is 'M' relaxing by the fire and the husband looks like he is thinking of escaping out the side door:

the inside/tasting room area is HUGE! you can rent the place out for parties and they also have monthly events and festivals...we bought four bottles of wine and headed back home.

sunday i did the normal clean the house, laundry, cooking for the week routine...i made a lasagna to freeze for lunches and a pan of magic 7-layer cookie bars to bring to work today as we were having a lunch meeting in our conference room...for dinner last nite i made pancakes with vermont maple syrup (which is NOT as good as lisa's from new hampshire) and chicken breakfast sausage which was wonderful! i highly suggest it if you don't like the greasiness of pork sausage...

i settled in to watch the oscars but fell asleep in no time...my alarm was going off way to early this morning...weekends are way too short!

I love it when you go to wineries. One day, at least a year from now, I will ask your opinion on the best wineries in SC and NC to visit so Jason and I can take a little day/weekend trip. I would love that.

How many bottles of unopened wine do you have at home right now?

See, being pregnant FOREVER, I forget how often I or others that like wine drink it. Right now, I think we have one bottle on hand, but maybe we used to have like 6 on hand when I was able to drink...

SIGH. One day.

I would just like to know if my husband is the only husband in the world who refuses to eat at lovely little places that serve quiche and such. I can't even imagine suggesting that my husband sit down and eat a slice of quiche without giving him a slab of cow on the side!! : )

OH, that looks like a great weekend! I love that fireplace at the winery where M is sitting. That would be dreamy to have that in a home. I always enjoy your travel reviews. I love french onion soup.

That last winery looks beautiful! I bet that really would be an excellent place for a party.

The tea room place sounds wonderful too.
