weekend in review

friday after work (we got out 30 whole minutes early, woohoo) we stopped by the hospital to check in on 'M'...she was still a bit woozy so we didn't stay too too long. plus we had to get home to check on our neighbors cats and their son's new pet lizard thing, dennis, while they were at the beach for the weekend. seems dennis is an anole lizard...i don't know what i was expecting, maybe a komodo dragon, but dennis fell way short...he was itty bitty and didn't do anything spectacular save for lay in his 'hammock' under the sun lamp when we clicked it on for 8 hours a day!

after checking in on the menagerie we went home to veg out...the husband has been working on a 'super secret' project of his own for 'M'...he promised her she could see it when she was put in a regular room...it's a cross stitch (yes, my husband can cross stitch and he likes it). sophie is his able bodied assistant...she is 'chief thread tangler'...

while those 2 were working on their project, i continued on my own 'super secret project'...ultimately i drifted off to sleep to the sounds of the ncaa baseball world series something or another.

saturday we slept in, had breakfast in bed (power bars and coffee), read the paper, tended the neighbors animals, watered plants, and had these salads for lunch...and since it WAS past noon, we had adult beverages...

i've taken to adding blueberries to the salads...and it is YUM! i'm getting low on the goat cheese so we are going to the farmer's market downtown this wednesday at lunch. after lunch we went to visit 'M' at the hospital...she had quite the crowd: her parents, her sister, my cousin and her husband, us, her friend and her husband, her ex-husband...it was quite the party! and yep, they don't care how many people are visiting you at once....we had to leave to go home and turn off the lizard light so dennis wouldn't dry out and for dinner i made a new to us pizza...

the crust is whole wheat from trader joe's (ball of dough in the refrigerator section is 99cents!!) that i had in the freezer. i rolled it out on cornmeal, added a layer of sauteed thinly sliced yukon gold potatoes, fresh chopped sage and rosemary from my herb garden, crushed red pepper, garlic, mozzarella, parmesan and some leftover chopped up chicken. BOY was it good! i think there is a bit of room for improvement...i'm going to make it again soon and will expand upon the exact how-to's later...after cleaning the kitchen i went back to my 'project' and again fell asleep during baseball...

sunday morning we slept in, had breakfast in bed (banana bread & coffee), read the paper, did animal patrol for the last time and decided to finally after i think maybe 3 years finish our padded headboard...all we needed to do was put the fabric on the back to tidy it up and add braid cord to hide the staples...sophie was as always our able bodied assistant...she clung on for dear life while the bed was pulled away from the wall...see her little paws wrapped around the headboard?

while the bed was out i vacuumed behind it thoroughly and then washed all the linens just for the heck of it. i cleaned the whole house, did tons of laundry, finished my 'super secret project', finished reading a book, went to bath and body works (see previous post, again i blame it on alfred's mom...), made tortellini for dinner and walked a mile but got afraid since it was getting dark and i was alone so i quit after one. we had a great weekend and ended it by talking to 'M' on the phone for a long time and then i read until i fell asleep. next thing i knew, the alarm was going off...weekend over...

Yes, it does sound like a great weekend with good food, too. I'm glad M is getting better. When does she get out of the hospital? I like the headboard that Sofie is sitting on! She is such a little worker bee.

That pizza looks delicious! That's awesome that your husband does cross stitch. I taught mine crochet awhile back but it didn't stick. Great pictures of Sophie!
