wednesday house tour

welcome back to wednesday house tour...seems like ages since y'all were here! today's room is 'girlville' aka my studio. this room use to be just an extra guest room with 2 twin beds in it...charlie pretty much spent the majority of his time under one of the beds...i had wanted to make this my craft room but knew that in order to do so the bed charlie liked to hide out under would have to go...i literally struggled with this for about a year before deciding to go ahead and just do it...you see, charlie is a very special skittish cat and i didn't want to upset him. well, he has acclimated very well switching to under the other bed...or on top of it looking out the window...or under our bed...or on top of kady's bed in her room.

this is the view looking into the room...before all you saw was 2 twin beds with a nightstand in between. one bed left, the other bed moved to the opposite side of the room and the dresser flipped spots as well...now i have my 'new' chair and just this weekend the husband built me another table out of mdf to cover with fabric that stores more of my crafting supplies in the cigar boxes he has been bringing home from work (no, the husband doesn't work in a cigar store...some guy there brings them from a friend's cigar store and all the worker peeps pounce on them and take them home)

this is the remaining bed and a piece that i'm using as a nightstand. this set of furniture all belonged to the husband's 2 sisters when they were little. it was the same white french provencal stuff most every girl had growing up...right after we got married the husband's mother was going to throw it all away!! y'all know i pounced right on it as we were house hunting and needed furniture. i refinished it (it was in bad shape) by crackle glazing it in black with white undertones and putting new knobs on it that i gold leafed and i took a gold paint pen and went back in where gold was originally in all the intricate groves with the pen. i made the bed skirts (you see...i still have 2 of everything!) and the rest of the bedding was purchased on the cheap at places like k-mart and target.

here is the froggy rug beside the bed...

i love love love chandeliers....this is just a cheapy brass one from lowes that i added a ceiling medallion and funky shades to...there is also a frog prince sitting up in there but i don't know if you can see him - he's a christmas ornament. y'all know you can click on the picture to make it bigger...right?
these 3 cat pictures were actually torn from calendars and i just had them framed nicely...they hang above the little green chair i reclaimed from my parents house...see it peeking out at the bottom?

looky...i have fabric stashed in the corner...this IS a studio i can be messy if i want to...

this is the desk area that the husband built for me in the closet...i've shown it it y'all before...i can have stuff all strewn out on the desk and then just close the doors at night so the kitties don't 'help' me while i'm sleeping.

i got a cool trash can from bed, bath and beyond...sophie likes to climb in it and pull stuff out...

this is one of the bulletin boards i made...i still need to make the other one for the door opposite this one...

here is a better view of my new storage table...i have a lot of the cigar boxes with craft supplies in them. i'm going to label them so i know what's in them! i already had the lamp so i just need to get a cool shade for it...i went to the fabric store monday night to get the stuff for 'M's headboard and saw some super cheap fabric ($4/yd) that will work for covering this table but i didn't have the sample of chair fabric to match it to so i'm going back next monday to get some and cover this table next week....

well, that's all for this week...next week we will venture into the master suite...

I love everything, I can't believe how good the furniture looks (I had the same furniture growing up) painted - very good job. I really like the framed pictures too. I'm going to have to start saving calendar pictures - I always get a lighthouse calendar, I can start framing them. Thanks for sharing some great ideas.

I could really kick myself right now for not taking my mom's old bedroom furniture when my G-parents downsized. Aaah!

What is the design on that green fabric hanging on the top left of the bulletin board in the closet?

I love what you did with the brass chandelier! It's amazing what cute shades will do.

And your bed is so well made. Love the bedding and the attention to detail. I think that is the #1 quality that makes a host and their home special, Attention to Detail.

The chair looks great in there! I love that chandelier. It is so pretty. I have to say it again...you have such a talent for putting everything together. The things that you get framed always look so good. I can't wait to see how you cover your new table.

magnolia sun - oh that would be great to frame the lighthouse prints since you like them so!

pam - i love that print, i thought it looked like charlie and since it's 'his' room i got it for him! where do you have yours?

am, the fabric has grasshoppers on it...it was a contender for the chair and i liked it so i kept it for future reference even though i didn't do the chair in it. i love bedding and making beds and seeing how cheap i can get everything! i'm weird - no?

rpm - i've got one word for covering the table...rick rack...are you curious??

It's part of a series of three that I have hanging in our downstairs living room. I'm slowly working on a french theme in there.
