book review

i just finished 'a wedding in december' by anita shreve. i have read several of her books and this has been my least favorite to date. but that's not to say it isn't a good book or i regret reading it. compared to some of the other books i've been reading this year it's definitely less vapid (shopaholic and baby for instance).

the story is about a group of 7 high school friends reunited 2osomething years later for a wedding. some of shreve's themes in the novel are: choices made, second chances, long lost love, starting over. also there is a parallel story within the story about an explosion in the canadian city of halifax that took place during world war I. that story was better than the main one and i hope that shreve will maybe pick it up again for a future novel (she has done this before with 'fortune's rocks' and 'sea glass').

on to another book...happy reading!
