book review

i finished 'this side of married' by rachel pastan today. i think i read this book in 2 days! it was GOOD. not chic lit or southern lit, just a good solid book. it takes place in suburban philadelphia and is about a family consisting of a domineering mother who is a dr., her husband, who is a judge and their 3 daughters (ranging in age from mid twenties to 39). the oldest and youngest aren't married but their mother is trying hard to find them suitable husbands. the middle daughter is married and trying desperately to have a baby. the family is thrown into upheaval as various men come in and out of the picture in the time span of about one year. i highly recommend this debut novel.

next up: 'a wedding in december' by anita shreve. i've read a lot of her books in the past so it will be interesting to see how this one stacks up. plus i got married in december - maybe that's what drew me to this book....

happy reading!
