preparations

after a lazy saturday morning spent doing this*...

...it was time to vacuum the rugs, polish up the silver** and get out the nice tablecloth...

...so the cake has been baked...

... the lasagna is in the oven...let the party begin! i can hardly believe that my youngest cousin was born thirteen years ago...time flies.......

*tyler really doesn't know how to read the newspaper, he just pretends

**i don't really have real silverware, polishing it just isn't my thing! they are all lucky i'm not using paper plates.

Everything looks lovely. Did you bake that cake? It looks wonderful..I wish I had one-fourth of it for myself! I love the dress-up table with glass, crystal and silver.

rpm, thank you, yes i made the cake. i make birthday/wedding/anniversary cakes for close friends and family members. this wasn't my best effort as i was tired and grumpy by the time it came to decorate it and i figured it was just close family members and we were going to eat it so why knock myself out. i only cared that it tasted good. the birthday girl loved it. i sprinkled sparkle dust on it (which didn't photograph at all) and she thought that was beyond cool. she didn't want me to cut it! it tasted really really good and she took half home to enjoy at her other party tomorrow.

Wow, you do great cake work. My husband's cousin does wedding cakes and catering (small) but I love to see her cakes. She sent me a picture tonight of one she did this weekend so I'll probably put it up on my site tomorrow or next week.

That is a gorgeous cake! Way to go!

When Emma is older, I want to get more into baking.

alfredsmom, thank you! baking is easy and i'm 100% self taught at the decorating. it just takes practice. you should make her first b-day cake or at least a little 'smash cake' (that is what they call it, right?). you've got a few months to practice yet.
